Exhaust Velocity

Exhaust velocity is the velocity at which the exhaust gases are expelled from a rocket engine. It is a critical parameter in rocket propulsion as it determines the thrust produced by the engine. The higher the exhaust velocity, the higher the thrust produced by the engine. The exhaust velocity is determined by the specific impulse of the propellant used in the engine. Specific impulse is a measure of the efficiency of the engine and is defined as the thrust produced per unit of propellant consumed per unit of time. A higher specific impulse means a higher exhaust velocity and a more efficient engine. The exhaust velocity also determines the maximum velocity that a rocket can achieve. The rocket equation, which describes the motion of a rocket, shows that the maximum velocity is directly proportional to the exhaust velocity.
