Dependability

Dependability is the ability of a space system to deliver services that can justifiably be trusted. It is the ability to avoid service failures that are more frequent or more severe than is acceptable to the user community. Dependability is a combination of several attributes, including reliability, availability, maintainability, safety, and security. Reliability is the ability of a system to perform its intended function without failure for a specified period of time. Availability is the ability of a system to be operational and accessible when needed. Maintainability is the ability of a system to be repaired or maintained in a timely and cost-effective manner. Safety is the ability of a system to operate without causing harm to people or the environment. Security is the ability of a system to resist unauthorized access or attacks.
