Current Drive


Current drive is a technique used in fusion energy research to provide the plasma with the necessary energy to achieve fusion. It involves the use of external sources to drive a current through the plasma, which in turn generates a magnetic field that confines and heats the plasma. Current drive is necessary because the plasma must be heated to extremely high temperatures in order for fusion to occur, and this cannot be achieved solely through the use of heating techniques. There are several methods of current drive, including neutral beam injection, electron cyclotron resonance heating, and ion cyclotron resonance heating.
