Control Moment Gyros


Control Moment Gyros (CMGs) are devices used in spacecraft attitude control systems to provide torque or rotational momentum to the spacecraft. They consist of a spinning rotor that can be controlled to change the spacecraft's orientation. By changing the speed and direction of the rotor, the spacecraft can be rotated or stabilized in a particular orientation. CMGs are preferred over traditional reaction wheels because they can provide higher torque and do not require fuel to operate. They are commonly used in large spacecraft such as satellites and the International Space Station.
