Aperture
In space and astronautical engineering, aperture refers to the diameter of the opening through which light or other electromagnetic radiation passes. Aperture is a critical parameter in the design of optical systems such as telescopes, cameras, and spectrometers. The size of the aperture determines the amount of light that can be collected and the resolution of the system. In general, larger apertures allow for higher resolution and better sensitivity, but also require larger and more complex optical systems. Aperture is often expressed in units of meters or millimeters, and is a key factor in determining the performance of space-based observatories such as the Hubble Space Telescope.
