Antenna Impedance

Antenna Impedance is the measure of the opposition of an antenna to the flow of an alternating current (AC) produced by a transmitter. It is a complex quantity that consists of resistance, inductive reactance, and capacitive reactance. Antenna impedance is important in the design and operation of radio communication systems. The impedance of an antenna must match the impedance of the transmission line and the transmitter for efficient transfer of power. Mismatched impedance can cause signal loss, reflected power, and damage to the transmitter. Antenna impedance can be measured using an antenna analyzer or a network analyzer. Impedance matching techniques such as using a balun or a matching network can be used to match the impedance of the antenna to the transmission line and the transmitter.
