ACARS (Aircraft Communications Addressing And Reporting System)
ACARS, or Aircraft Communications Addressing and Reporting System, is a digital data link system for the transmission of short, relatively simple messages between aircraft and ground stations via radio or satellite. The system was introduced in the 1970s and is used worldwide by airlines to transmit in-flight information such as fuel consumption, engine performance data, and aircraft system status reports. ACARS messages can be initiated by the flight crew or automatically by onboard sensors. The system is also capable of receiving messages from ground stations, such as weather updates or changes in flight plans. ACARS is an essential part of modern aviation, providing real-time data that helps airlines monitor and manage their operations more efficiently. It also plays a crucial role in flight safety, as it allows for the immediate detection and reporting of any potential issues or anomalies that may occur during a flight.
