Visual Range

In the context of aerospace engineering, Visual Range refers to the maximum distance at which an object or light can be clearly discerned under prevailing atmospheric conditions. It is a critical factor in aviation safety, particularly in relation to takeoff and landing procedures. The visual range is influenced by various factors including weather conditions, atmospheric particles, and the observer's visual acuity. In aviation, the term is often used in conjunction with the Runway Visual Range (RVR), which is a measure of the distance over which a pilot of an aircraft on the centerline of the runway can see the runway surface markings or the lights delineating the runway or identifying its center. The visual range is not only important for pilots but also for air traffic controllers and meteorologists who need to understand and predict visibility conditions to ensure safe and efficient air travel.
