Magnetic Reconnection

Magnetic reconnection is a fundamental process in plasma physics where the magnetic topology is rearranged, converting magnetic energy into kinetic and thermal energy. It occurs when the magnetic field lines in a plasma break and reconnect, releasing a large amount of energy. This process is responsible for many dynamic phenomena in space, such as solar flares, coronal mass ejections, and geomagnetic storms. Magnetic reconnection is also important in laboratory plasmas, fusion devices, and space propulsion systems.
