Lossless Compression

Lossless compression is a data compression technique that allows the original data to be perfectly reconstructed from the compressed data. In other words, it is a compression method that does not lose any information during the compression process. This is achieved by identifying and eliminating the redundancy in the data, without sacrificing any of the original content. Lossless compression is commonly used in space and astronautical engineering to reduce the size of data files that are transmitted or stored in spacecraft, satellites, and other space vehicles. This is important because the limited bandwidth and storage capacity in space missions require efficient data handling techniques. Examples of lossless compression algorithms used in space and astronautical engineering include Huffman coding, Lempel-Ziv-Welch (LZW) algorithm, and Run-length encoding (RLE).
