Three-dimensional Cell Cultures

Three-dimensional (3D) cell cultures are in vitro systems that allow cells to grow and interact with their surroundings in a three-dimensional manner, mimicking the in vivo microenvironment. These cultures can be created using various techniques, including scaffold-based methods, hydrogels, and spheroids. 3D cell cultures have been shown to better recapitulate the complexity and heterogeneity of tissues and organs compared to traditional two-dimensional (2D) cultures. They have been used in various applications, including drug discovery, disease modeling, and tissue engineering. In the field of space and astronautical engineering, 3D cell cultures have been used to study the effects of microgravity on cell behavior and tissue formation, as well as to develop tissue-engineered constructs for potential use in space-based medical applications.
