Heat-resistant Tiles

Heat-resistant tiles are a type of material used in spacecraft to protect against the high temperatures generated during re-entry into the Earth's atmosphere. These tiles are made of materials such as ceramics, silica fibers, and reinforced carbon-carbon composites, which have high melting points and can withstand temperatures up to 3,000 degrees Fahrenheit. The tiles are designed to be lightweight and durable, and are arranged in a pattern to cover the underside of the spacecraft. During re-entry, the tiles absorb the heat generated by friction with the atmosphere, preventing the spacecraft from burning up. Heat-resistant tiles are a critical component of spacecraft design, as they ensure the safety of the crew and the success of the mission.
