Fuel Assemblies

Fuel assemblies are the core components of a nuclear reactor that contain fuel rods filled with nuclear fuel. In the context of space and astronautical engineering, fuel assemblies are used in nuclear-powered spacecraft to generate power for propulsion and other systems. The fuel used in these assemblies is typically uranium or plutonium, which undergoes a controlled chain reaction to produce heat. This heat is then used to generate electricity through a thermoelectric generator or to heat a propellant, such as hydrogen, which is expelled through a nozzle to create thrust. Fuel assemblies are designed to withstand the extreme conditions of space, including high levels of radiation and temperature fluctuations. They are also designed to be easily replaceable, as the fuel rods will eventually become depleted and need to be replaced.
